Inabyte Releases InaGrid 2.0 Advanced 32-Bit ActiveX Grid Control Solution
Next-Generation Grid Control Leads the Industry in Supporting the Display of Characters from Many International Alphabets
NOVATO, CA, July 13, 1999 Inabyte Inc., a developer of components for the Win32 architecture, today released a new generation of its acclaimed InaGrid ActiveX grid control. InaGrid 2.0 is among the first grid controls to support full Microsoft® IntelliMouse® functionality and has the capability to display characters according to the Unicode Standard, the path-breaking universal 16-bit encoding protocol for the scripts of the worlds principal languages. Inabyte Inc., a developer of components for the Win32 architecture, today released a new generation of its acclaimed InaGrid ActiveX grid control. InaGrid 2.0 is among the first grid controls to support full Microsoft® IntelliMouse® functionality and has the capability to display characters according to the Unicode Standard, the path-breaking universal 16-bit encoding protocol for the scripts of the worlds principal languages.
InaGrid is an easy-to-implement virtual/unbound grid control that is ideally suited for database-oriented viewers. An efficient, potent tool for developers, InaGrid enables applications to open and scroll through extremely large files or lists with lightning speed. In addition, with the capability to support well over 900,000,000,000,000 grid rows and 2 billion columns, InaGrid can handle the largest database files. By supporting the Unicode Standard, InaGrid makes it possible for developers to display characters from a broad range of international alphabets and character sets. In addition, with IntelliMouse support, InaGrid makes it easier than ever to navigate quickly through large files.
"The Internet is knocking down barriers in the global software industry and driving the need for applications that can accommodate a variety of languages and alphabets," said Mark Hennessy, president of Inabyte. "In this new environment developers are finding that they need components that can work simultaneously with Latin alphabet-based languagessuch as English, German and Frenchand non-Latin-based alphabets such as Japanese, Chinese or Arabic. By incorporating Unicode functionality in our next generation InaGrid grid control, Inabyte is leading the grid component industry into this exciting new multilingual era."
"The Inabyte product allowed us to integrate many Unicode fonts and many languages into our US Windows® 98 product," said James Dabbs, the Director of Engineering at TGA Technologies, a developer of sophisticated computer-based paging and messaging for global businesses. "No other grid, and in fact almost no other OCX control, allows this functionality. If you are developing multilingual applications in this fashion, InaGrid is quite literally your only choice. It is a great product backed by a great little company that is truly in touch with their customers needs."
Powerful Grid Control
InaGrids streamlined design provides swift and robust performance. At 124 KB in size, InaGrid has a small footprint, yet supports a wide range of formatting features that distinguish it from other grids. Word-wrap can be turned on or off in headers and cells, to provide intuitive and easy-to-read data display. And unlike most grids that support drag-and-drop adjustment for columns only, InaGrid enables drag-and-drop row height adjustment as well. InaGrid also enables cell edit expansion to facilitate easy changes, and lets users scroll through entire files in edit mode.
Being virtual, InaGrid has advantages over more elaborate grid controls. It is quick to implement and gets data onscreen fast. Moreover, there are no pre-load delays, meaning that data is delivered to the end-user as fast as possible. With steady increases in the amount of data that applications must access, InaGrid has the capability to meet developer needs well in to the future, and it is an excellent replacement for List Controls and List Boxes.
InaGrid supplies three editing controls that can be used to capture user input: InaEdit, InaCombo, and InaCheck. InaEdit is a text tool that enables users to enter data directly into cells, InaCombo places drop-down combo boxes in grid cells, and InaCheck places check-boxes into cells. Also, Inabyte provides access to InaEdits source code, giving developers a workable demonstration on how to write an OCX wrapper for embedding any OCX in a cell.
The Unicode Standard
As the Internet has accelerated the need for global software, an international language-encoding standard has rapidly become a necessity so that computers in one world language community can talk with those in another language community. Arising from this need is the Unicode Consortium, an international group of software companies and developers that has advanced the Unicode Standard, a global standard that provides the foundation for internationalization and localization of software. The Unicode Standard supports and fosters the multilingual computing world community by standardizing international character encoding.
